Rotary Club Fichtel Mountains celebrate 50 years of selfless serving!
The Rotary Club Fichtelgebirge celebrated a very special anniversary on June 29, 2025: 50 years of volunteering and selfless serve. The celebrations took place in the atmospheric ambience of the "old firing house" in the own porcelain ancon, where around 120 guests gathered to look back on the history and achievements of the club. The Rotary Club Fichtelgebirge has been part of a global organization in 1975 that has set itself the task of taking a positive impact on society and supporting communities.
As part of the anniversary, Philipp Riedel from Wunsiedel was awarded the prestigious order "Paul Harris Fellow". This certificate of honor is given personalities who have emerged through significant donations to the Rotary Foundation. Rotary President Johannes Troesch handed over the award with pride and honored Riedel's commitment to the values of the Rotary Club. This shows once again that even small deeds can have great effects and that each part is somewhat larger.
The importance of Paul Harris Fellow award
But what is actually behind the Paul Harris Fellow award? This honor was introduced in 1957 and appreciates individuals who have either personally donated $ 1,000 or more to the Rotary Foundation or for whom their name is donated. The name goes back to Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary. The first received awards went to Allison G. Brush and Rufus F. Chapin in 1946. Another milestone was given this award when the first woman, Mrs. Adan Vargas, in 1953.
Nowadays, the honored not only receive a certificate, but also a pin. If you want, you can also get a medal designed by a Japanese artist. The variety of Paul Harris Fellows is shown by prominent personalities who have been honored for their services, including Nobel laureates and staoles. In total, there were already over a million awards until 2006 that recognize the difference, the individuals in their community and beyond.
The anniversary celebration of the Rotary Club Fichtelgebirge was not only a review of the past time, but also a call to continue to be active and take responsibility. The club proves that even today, through cohesion and altruistic action, one can influence society. As you can see, "there is something" - and that's just the beginning.
