Kiliani start in Würzburg: Police investigate after fights!
The first days of the Kiliani Folk Festival in Würzburg were characterized by a lot of hustle and bustle and colorful activities, but unfortunately also by unpleasant incidents. Amid the lively atmosphere, showmen reported a successful start to the festival, but the police had their hands full. Several disputes around the festival caused excitement and required rapid intervention by emergency services. So reported Radio gong that the police are looking for witnesses to the incidents and are accepting tips on 0931-457 2230.
A particularly brutal incident occurred at the Ferris wheel, where a 22-year-old was pelted with plastic drinking cups by an unknown perpetrator. The attacker didn't let up and hit the victim several times until he fell to the ground. The perpetrator, described as male, around 35 years old and tall, then fled. He was wearing a red basketball shirt with "Jordan" and was accompanied by a woman who had blonde hair and was wearing a black dress and was carrying a stroller.
Another worrying event
But that's not all - another incident occurred at the Friedensbrücke in which a 43-year-old got into an argument with his 56-year-old ex-partner. After a strong push, the woman landed on the floor and injured her head. An alcohol test for the man showed over two per mille, which is why he now has to face charges of bodily harm. Such riots cast a dark shadow over the festival and show that even fun and celebratory mood can sometimes turn into violence.
A completely different but equally explosive issue is the increase in incidents in which women are allegedly attacked with needles in crowds. So reported the courier about an incident that occurred on July 3, 2025 in Kösching, in the Eichstätt district. A 22-year-old woman complained of a headache after a suspected needle stick and had to be taken to hospital. Whether it was actually a needle prick or an injection remains unclear. Police are investigating and there have been no further reports of similar incidents.
Needle Spiking: A Growing Problem
Such incidents are treated in the media as part of the “needle spiking” phenomenon, which is increasingly causing concern. Loud DW Reports of such attacks emerged across Europe, particularly at festivals and major events. Women between the ages of 14 and 20 appear to be commonly affected. The attacks usually go unnoticed, so those affected often only notice symptoms such as redness or dizziness until later.
Women should be particularly careful at such celebrations, where things are often crowded. Experts recommend traveling in groups, not sharing drinks and seeking help immediately if you suspect a needle attack. The increasing number of incidents classified as sexual violence against women is worrying and is prompting authorities to step up investigations.
Public safety during celebratory moments remains a hot topic, and everyone involved hopes that the coming days of the Kiliani Festival will still bring much joy and positive experiences.
