Waldrapp sensation in Antdorf: Paride is back from afar!

In a remarkable find, Hubert Klein discovered a Waldrapp near Antdorf. This extraordinary bird with its characteristic bent beak is one of the rarest birds on our planet. For a long time it was thought that the species had died out, but thanks to intensive resettlement projects, it returns gradually. Merkur reports that the viewed forest drain is a male called "Paride", which belongs to the colony in Überlingen.

"Paride" is an interesting contemporary: he commutes between Salzburg and the Allgäu and has already lived among people, which makes it particularly trusting. The discovery of "Paride" is not only a stroke of luck for the nature lovers of the region, but also a sign of the success of protection projects that bring the Waldrapp back into nature. This is another highlight for the ornithological circle of friends in Antdorf, who was able to welcome the Waldrapp team at Paterzell at the Paterzell Airport.

an impressive hiking adventure

The Waldrapp team's hike to Spain, which took place last year, is an adventure for the history books. The group mastered a distance of 2,600 kilometers with 36 young birds, without a single emergency landing. Over a period of 52 days, the birds mostly moved well in cars, since they often had little pleasure in flying days. The animals were only released into nature in December and found the local forest population.

The hike represents a world record and is part of a larger resettlement project for the species. This initiative has been very successful in recent years and has already led to the Waldrapp population on 142 animals in three breeding colonies north of the Alps. Despite the progress, a modeling shows that this population is not yet independent, which encouraged those responsible to start a new life project to further strengthen the population. waldrapp.eu informs about the necessary steps that are to be taken by 2028.

hope for the future

The resettlement of the Waldrapp is only possible with considerable commitment and support. In Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, ten partners under the direction of the Schönbrunn Tiergarten in Vienna work in the continued existence of this unique nature. The emergency services are optimistic that they can strengthen the population to independence.

The return of "Paride" and the stories of these extraordinary birds spare nature conservationists to continue to fight for the preservation of biodiversity. Next year there will be another trip to Spain, in which the Paterzell intermediate goal is on the plan again.
