Fast-paced chase in Weilheim: Police are looking for witnesses!
November 25th was a day of exciting but also dangerous events for the city of Weilheim. A 33-year-old driver from Peißenberg became involved in a chase with the police that really gained momentum. According to that Circle messenger The driver, who was driving a VW, not only turned around in front of the police officers, but also raced through the city at speeds of over 100 km/h.
The situation became more dramatic when the fugitive collided with a parked Opel Corsa on Trogerstrasse and later hit a post on Krottenkopfstrasse. Particularly scandalous: During his escape, the driver endangered at least one passer-by with a stroller. The police asked for information from witnesses, especially the woman affected.
Drunks and drugs involved
The driver and his 28-year-old passenger, also from Weilheim, were ultimately arrested without resistance. As it turned out, the driver not only did not have a valid driving license, but was also under the influence of drugs. Drugs were also found on board. This raises another question mark on road safety; because like that ADAC clarifies, drug consumption significantly endangers concentration and ability to react.
Under current laws, driving under the influence of drugs can result in severe penalties ranging from fines to five years in prison. When it comes to proven drug use in traffic, the zero-tolerance policy is stricter than ever - even the smallest amounts are prohibited. It is therefore clear that this case could potentially have serious consequences not only for the fugitive, but also for other road users.
A look into the past
Whether the police's pursuit of the driver was legally flawless also raises questions in light of past judgments. The Altötting District Court decided in a similar case about liability in connection with police pursuits, in which the risks and dangers for uninvolved third parties were the focus of consideration. There is no good news for the police, as cases of damage to company vehicles during pursuits repeatedly lead to discussions about the necessary steps to be taken by the officers. Ra-Kotz reports a case in which a police vehicle was damaged during a chase - the fugitive's liability was in question.
In the meantime, the police in Weilheim are investigating the 33-year-old for several traffic offenses and drug possession. If anyone wants a quick end to this passionate chase, then please! All witnesses who saw something are advised to contact the police immediately on 0881/6400.
