Weilheim district: E-charging stations for the future of e-mobility!

The topic of electromobility is also making progress in the Weilheim-Schongau district. The district plans to create charging options for electric vehicles at its properties in order to meet the legal requirements. It currently appears that in new “non-residential buildings” with more than six parking spaces, every third parking space must be equipped with cable infrastructure and it is necessary to set up a charging point. For existing “non-residential buildings” the requirement applies as soon as there are more than ten parking spaces. These regulations also specifically affect the district's facilities.

The district has already taken the first steps in this direction and converted part of its fleet to electric vehicles. These include, among other things, five purely electric vehicles. In order to plan the new charging options sensibly, a comprehensive inventory of all properties with more than 20 parking spaces was carried out. Examples of locations for the planned charging options are the district office in Weilheim and various buildings in Schongau. Schools and the former hospital in Peißenberg will also soon be equipped with charging stations.

Integration of renewable energies

What is particularly interesting is that the planning of charging options also takes sustainable energy production into account. The district would like to use self-generated electricity from photovoltaic systems (PV systems) and combined heat and power plants. It is also checked whether the existing house connections are sufficient to meet the new requirements. It could be a challenge to adapt any electricity contracts that may be required and to expand the technical house connections.

Financial framework conditions

The estimated costs for adapting the network connections and installing the charging stations are around 500,000 euros. Although theoretically up to 140,000 euros in funding could be applied for from the Free State of Bavaria, a previous application was not approved. The district council nevertheless unanimously decided to develop an implementation strategy and find a service provider to operate and bill the charging stations. This shows that the district is determined to advance electromobility and take the necessary steps to achieve this.

If you are looking for an e-charging station in our region, you will find an overview on, for example GoingElectric who are already active at various locations. This not only contributes to reducing CO2 emissions, but also gives citizens an open ear about their mobility.

With these initiatives, the Weilheim-Schongau district will become a bit greener and e-mobility will find more space in people's everyday lives. A good hand in planning and implementation is required here - and the district administration seems to have that.
