Accompanied walks for seniors: active through Straubing!
Straubing, Deutschland - The Straubing community foundation is strongly committed to integrating older people with restrictions into the community. The “Wedding on Wednesday” initiative offers accompanied walks for seniors with a handicap, which are a great opportunity to move together in nature. These regular tours take place every first Wednesday of the month, with the next appointment on July 2. The meeting point is at 10.30 a.m. in front of the police building on Theresienplatz in Straubing. The walks last about an hour and are intended for both people restricted mobility as well as for their relatives.
The tour is guided by the experienced companions Ursula Bosl-Seitz and Elfriede wishes. It is particularly important that the event is promoted by the Bavarian dementia fund, which underlines the concern to create a supportive environment for people with dementia. The program design is adapted to the needs of the group and the respective weather conditions, which means that breaks are planned and sufficient toilet options are provided.
an open ear for dementia
In a city society that is getting older, the number of people with dementia grows. Therefore, it is all the more important to promote inclusive coexistence. The city of Straubing works together with the health region Plus and the community foundation on the project "Dementia -Sensible Community". This measure is intended to raise awareness of the needs of dementia. The initiative aims to improve the participation of all citizens in social life, regardless of their cognitive state of health.
future events will help to put the challenges that people with dementia face. A lecture and conversation with Peggy Elfmann will take place on October 22nd, and every first Friday of the month the Café Malta invites you to an exchange about memories. Memory walks with trained tour guides are also planned from autumn 2024. These activities are free of charge and are aimed at all citizens to create a better understanding and stronger sensitivity to dementia.
Opportunities for older people improve
This holistic approach corresponds to the recommendations of the ninth age report, which was presented by the Minister of Lisa Paus. The report addresses the diverse realities of older people in Germany. Barriers are shown in participation in social life, whereby women, especially those with a migration background, are in particular disadvantaged. Initiatives of the Federal Ministry of the Federal Department, such as the strategy against loneliness and the digital pact of age, aim to improve the life situation of older people and to counter discrimination and social isolation.
It is clear: for a lively society it is crucial that all members can actively participate. Projects such as the community foundation in Straubing set valuable impulses to promote cohesion and to offer older people a safe, supportive environment.
