A 36-year-old woman from Kirchdorf in the Rottal-Inn district had an unpleasant experience when she took part in a competition in May. However, what started as an exciting opportunity ended in significant financial loss. The caller claimed she had taken out a subscription and offered to cancel it. But in order to do this, he demanded the woman's bank details. In good faith and believing she was receiving help, she gave it out. Soon afterwards, the woman noticed that 96 euros were being debited from her account every month. Reality caught up with her when she checked her bank statements and discovered the fraud.
Scam exposed
After realizing the financial loss, she immediately contacted the police and filed a report. Fortunately, her bank was able to get the debited amount back and block the account from further debits. The police strongly advise not to reveal any bank details, IBAN or TAN numbers over the phone, as such calls are often accompanied by fraudulent activities.
At a time when our everyday lives are becoming increasingly digital, this case shows once again how important it is to keep a watchful eye and be skeptical of supposed “good offers”. Common sense could go a long way here.
