TSG Roth celebrates over 70 members: an evening full of honors and sporting spirit!

Last Saturday, a celebratory evening of honor for TSG 08 Roth took place in the Nutrichem Hall, where over 70 club members were honored. Around 120 guests accepted the invitation and experienced an evening full of memories and community. Chairman of the Board Philipp Seitz opened the event together with Deputy Chairman Astrid Elsel. Seitz emphasized the importance of the honors for the future of the club, while Elsel focused on the community and the diversity of the over 160 weekly sports offers in 15 departments, which makes TSG 08 Roth one of the largest sports clubs in the region.

Fourteen members were particularly honored for their ten years of loyalty to the club. Among those honored were Ursula Böhm and Peter Goertz. Another highlight of the evening was the honoring of the members who have remained loyal to the club for between 25 and 70 years. Here is the pleasing overview:

  • 25 Jahre: Gerd Hafner, Dr. Edgar Michel, Helmut Reinel, Martin Schorsack, Alexandra Wolfschläger, Dennis Wolfschläger, Tim Wolfschläger, Richard Treitz, Brigitte Rupp.
  • 40 Jahre: Hans-Werner Fruth, Dietmar Schuster, Tanja Heigl, Leonard Steib.
  • 50 Jahre: Gerhard Haberzettl, Klaus Pfister, Harry Ludwig.
  • 60 Jahre: Josef Lankes, Manfred Weitzel.
  • 70 Jahre: Siegmar Ruhm, Werner Böhm, Emil Raithel, Herbert Reincke.

Long-term commitment and awards

Another part of the ceremony was dedicated to the many years of voluntary work within the association. Numerous members from five departments were honored who had distinguished themselves through their commitment. Petra Kroner-Kunze and Walter Kunze received an award in badminton. The fit+aktiv department honored Astrid Elsel and Ingrid Schneider, among others. In football, Gerhard Distler and Dagmar Nothnagel received an honor, while the athletics department recognized Vanessa Aberham and Nadja Berthel-El Yazami. The triathlon department also celebrated numerous award winners such as Madlin Bussinger and Sebastian Freiman.

Particularly noteworthy was the honor given to Stefanie Graff, Jürgen Klinnert and Helmut Kroner, who were recognized by the main club for their services. An external person who regularly helps with club activities was also honored. The evening ended with a cozy get-together that further strengthened the club's community.

A look into the future

TSG 08 Roth is optimistic about the future with more than 160 weekly sports offerings in 15 different departments. However, a recent study shows that many clubs in Germany, including TSG, are facing challenges. Over 28 million members in 86,000 sports clubs are struggling with a lack of coaches and volunteers, which could also affect the TSG. An appeal is needed to increase the attractiveness of volunteering and to improve the political framework, as the DOSB demands, for example. In particular, the challenges in the area of school sports could also have an impact on club work, so there is a need for action here.

Numerous social events are planned for 2025 at the TSG Old Men, including traditional stick shooting, a trip to Mallorca and a hiking weekend in Franconian Switzerland. Looking back on the year 2024, a sporting balance was also drawn: two tournament victories in the hall and some exciting outdoor games. In all of these activities, the appreciation for voluntary work is particularly important so that the next generations of sports enthusiasts can also find a home in TSG 08 Roth.
