Large crowds on BR hiking tours: over 500 explorers in the Rhön!
From June 10th to 13th, 2025, the Bavarian Rhön once again turned into a hotspot for hiking enthusiasts. The annual BR hiking tours, organized by Bayerische Rundfunk (BR) in cooperation with Rhön GmbH, Naturpark Bayerische Rhön as well as the districts of Bad Kissingen and Rhön-Grabfeld, attracted over 500 participants from all over Bavaria and beyond. The goal was clear: experience and discover the impressive landscape of the Rhön up close.
Among the more than 300 participants on the final day, many who took the opportunity to explore the "healthy side of the Rhön" around Bad Kissingen, to explore the sporting challenges on the Kreuzberg and the fascinating, worth protecting nature of the Langen Rhön. The first kilometers of the “The Hochrhöner” long -distance hiking trail were also on the program. The surrounding of the Kreuzberg was particularly popular with the hikers. On the final hike we went from Oberbach to the Berghaus Rhön through the Nature reserve Schwarze Mountains, which was a special experience for many, which they took home.

The prominent accompaniment by BR moderators such as Stefan Strasser, Norbert Steiche, Jürgen Gläser, Antonia Schlosser and comedian Markus Barth, who entertained the participants in the evening with stand-up comedy, was the prominent accompaniment of the hiking tours. This gave the event a special flair. Participants such as Sabine K. from Nuremberg and Thomas W. from Bayreuth consistently expressed a positive statement about the organization and the sense of community. "A positive experience!" was the clear conclusion of Sabine K. while Thomas W. praised the professional accompaniment.The rush was so large that more registrations were to be awarded than places for the first few days. In addition, the event received comprehensive media accompaniment, which means that live circuits on television, radio broadcasts and activities on social media additionally strengthened the presence of the event. The social media channels of Rhön GmbH recorded a visible increase in followers during this time.

The landscape of the Bavarian Rhön itself was particularly impressive, which turned out to be true paradise for wandering. The region, known for its "open distant", offers an abundance of experiences with over 7,800 km of hiking trails and unique biotopes. The nature park not only houses high -towering basalt columns that are reminiscent of volcanic activities, but also valuable high bogs that are considered significant in Central Europe. Characterized by volcanoes, the Rhön captivates with its impressive flora and fauna, which has long since disappeared in other places.For everyone who missed the hiking tours, there is reason to hope: All four tours are still accessible after the event, so that nature lovers can discover the beauty of the Rhön at any time. Johannes Metz, Managing Director of Rhön GmbH, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in his final speech to sustainably promote tourism in the Rhön.
