Brilliant light for children: Caritas campaign brings joy in Advent!
Advent, Advent, a little light is burning! The Caritas Association for the Rhön-Grabfeld district has this year's Advent and Christmas campaign under the motto “Hold me tight and give me light!” brought into being. This initiative aims to bring a little joy to socially disadvantaged families in the region and to give gifts to children in needy situations. Sales of the popular Caritas lights started on November 20th, and a total of 720 candles are available - ideal as a souvenir for Santa Claus or for the contemplative Christmas season.
Each candle, which is available for 5 euros, has a lottery number. What's special: In addition to the contemplative atmosphere, there are also attractive daily prizes. The campaign includes a large raffle in which non-cash prizes and vouchers with a total value of over 1,800 euros will be raffled off from December 1st to 24th. A very special main prize is a high-quality CUBE children's bike worth 519 euros, donated by Stefanie and Michael Hippeli, the owners of bikePoint Rhön. The prizes are announced daily on the Caritas Association homepage and in the local press.
Dedicated support for those in need
The raffle is not only an opportunity for many to win something, but also an opportunity to actively help. The winnings can be picked up at the Caritas Association in Bad Neustadt, although minors must be accompanied by a legal representative. And if winnings are not claimed by January 12, 2026, they will be distributed to socially disadvantaged families. This underlines the social responsibility that the Caritas association bears for the region.
But it's not just in Rhön-Grabfeld that people are working towards Christmas. The Caritas Austria Christmas letter campaign has the motto “Do something good at Christmas”. What is needed here are committed people who are willing to place an order for letters, buy gifts and send them directly to the respective Caritas facilities. This campaign not only supports children, but also young people and adults with disabilities. Contact with the Caritas facilities is easy via a hotline or online orders.
Christmas packages for children in need
At the international level, Kinderzukunft’s “Christmas Packet Relief Campaign” initiative sends signs of hope. Every year, gifts for children in southern and eastern Europe are collected and sent, with the packages often being the only or first gift of the year for many children. Last year, over 155 schools, daycare centers and companies took part in these projects. Together they collected a total of 36,854 packages!
The recommended minimum donation for each package is 4 euros to cover the necessary costs of the campaign. The gifts not only bring joy, they also represent warmth and connection in a cold and often uncertain time.
The various initiatives impressively prove that we can keep an eye on what's important even during the hectic Christmas season: It's about living in community and helping those who need our support most. Whether in Rhön-Grabfeld or beyond – every contribution counts and makes a difference. Further information about the Caritas lights can be obtained by calling 09771 6116 0 or on the Caritas Association homepage. The Christmas letter campaign and the Christmas parcel campaign also offer a variety of opportunities to get involved.
