Regensburg's new school: modern, sustainable and for 3,350 students!

A new milestone in the educational institution has been achieved: The vocational school II (BSII) has inaugurated its extension building, which provides a breath of fresh air and modern learning conditions. Now around 3,350 vocational students have the opportunity to learn in new, barrier-free rooms that cover more than 4,000 square meters. The city spent 37 million euros on this measure in order to respond to the increasing demand for modern classrooms. [Regensburg](https://www.regensburg.de/regensburg-507/kurz-knapp/bs-ii- Extensionsbau-eingeweiht) reports that the construction work took place during ongoing school operations. This not only placed special demands on the planners and construction workers, but also on the school family.

The new building now also accommodates specialized departments such as nutrition and supply management, butchers/specialist salespeople as well as chemical technicians/pharmaceutical technicians and chemical laboratory assistants. In addition, additional classrooms were created for vocational preparation and vocational integration classes, which significantly expands the vocational school's offerings. The rooms are spread over five levels and even include a leafy courtyard, which ensures a pleasant learning atmosphere.

Sustainability in focus

Sustainability was a top priority in this project. The new facility not only offers a modern learning environment, but also relies on innovative technology. A combined heat and power plant, heat exchangers in the ventilation systems and a photovoltaic system ensure that energy consumption is optimized and the environment is protected. Educate and think about the future at the same time - that's possible!

With regard to the construction method, the modular construction method was used, which is very popular these days. This not only offers solutions for new buildings, but also for expansions and temporary training locations. This ensures flexibility and speeds up the entire process, as BplusL notes. This meant the school was able to continue operating without major interruptions while the new rooms were being built.

Outlook for further developments

A further step on the way to an even better learning place is the demolition of an existing outbuilding from the 1970s, which is planned for 2026. This is intended to create areas for new open spaces that contribute to the recreation and leisure activities of the students. With a total area of 8,000 square meters on the school grounds, the vocational school II shows its desire to create a sustainable educational landscape.

Thanks to modern construction concepts and materials, school construction is not only resource-saving but also energy-efficient. More and more schools are relying on such sustainable models, and Deumoba illustrates that schools are not only places for learning, but also role models for environmentally conscious behavior.
