Continental splits off: Aumovio becomes Regensburg's star of the future!

The Bavarian automotive industry is facing significant change: Continental has decided to spin off its auto supplier business and create a new brand called Aumovio. This spin-off is expected for September 2025, as Central Bavarian reported. This is seen as a strategic step to meet the challenges of the automotive industry, particularly in the area of electromobility.

Aumovio will be headquartered in Regensburg, where Jean-François Tarabbia will lead the Architecture and Network Solutions business. With its four business areas – “Architecture and Network Solutions”, “Autonomous Mobility”, “Safety and Motion” and “User Experience” – Aumovio is already seen as an important player in the market. Philipp von Hirschheydt will act as CEO and also head the finance department on an interim basis after Karin Dohm was unable to take up her position for personal reasons.

Strategic orientation and market position

The new company Aumovio is not only a spin-off, but also a new beginning with all kinds of ambitions. The goals are clear: Aumovio wants to be a leader in all areas and focus on the development and production of innovative components and connected mobility solutions for software-defined vehicles. Aumovio has a decisive advantage for its global market position: the agility and creativity that comes with its independence are seen by many business leaders as the key to success.

Aumovio’s international perspective is particularly interesting. The company has eight research and development sites and twelve factories in China and is targeting growth of 2% there. This expansion is necessary because Continental already generated 14% of its sales in China in 2024. In a market where German manufacturers like Volkswagen are under pressure, Aumovio's new strategies could be crucial to strengthening its position.

Challenges in the automotive industry

However, the challenges should not be underestimated. Loud Statista The German automotive industry is confronted with declining market shares in the electric car segment, while at the same time the demand for new electric models is decreasing due to strict regulations and declining subsidies. Aumovio could be a pioneer here by developing advanced technologies that meet the current needs of the disruption in the automotive market.

And even if the spin-off from Continental will not come without risks, the prospect of a new, dynamic brand in the Bavarian automotive landscape is certainly positive. As German car manufacturers and suppliers increasingly focus on sustainable and connected mobility, Aumovio is seen as a role model for innovation and adaptability. It will be interesting to see how the market will develop, especially in an environment characterized by continuous change.
