Art Night in Passau: Tent for refugees symbolizes hope and peace
On July 10, 2025, the inner courtyard of St. Stephan's Cathedral in Passau will be all about hope and cohesion. On the occasion of the Holy Year “Pilgrims of Hope”, a refugee tent is being set up to remind us of the depressing situation of migrants on the Greek island of Lesbos. This impressive campaign is jointly organized by the diocese of Passau, Caritas, the diocesan council and the Gisela schools and has the motto “Build bridges – open doors – give hope”.
A highlight of the event is the presence of Deacon Günther Jäger, an experienced refugee supporter who regularly visits Lesbos. He is available for personal discussions and offers organic olive oil produced by refugees. This small income goes directly to people in need and makes it possible to improve living conditions.
Interactive art and musical highlights
The Caritas refugee and integration advisory service invites anyone interested to take part in an interactive art project entitled "Arrived? About Going and Staying". Here, visitors can take part in creative activities that give a sense of the challenges and hopes of people in refugee status.
Another impressive element of this art night is the wooden bridge, which was built and artistically designed by schoolgirls from Lower Bavaria and the Wolfstein workshops as part of the UNESCO project “Building bridges for peace #reaching hands”. This bridge symbolizes the connection between cultures and the power of working together.
Musically, the event will be rounded off with a program of Moroccan and international music on the Oud at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The musical performances provide another framework to celebrate cultural diversity and the importance of integration. Passau Cathedral will remain open until 10 p.m. this evening, offering the opportunity to reflect in peace and engage with the theme of hope.
Commitment to social cohesion
The art night in the Dominnenhof is not only a one-off event, but also represents an important part of the numerous integration projects that are part of the federal program “Social Cohesion – On Site. Networked. Connected.” promotes. Around 300 such projects are committed to improving intercultural coexistence and strengthening social cohesion. The aim is to create meeting spaces that bring together people with and without a migration background.
Such actions provide an excellent opportunity to break down prejudices and promote mutual understanding. That's exactly what the organizers of this art night want to achieve - set an example for common and respectful cooperation.
The entire event takes place in the historical ambience of the Dominnenhof, where art and culture meet an important social issue. Participation in these actions is a valuable opportunity for anyone who wants to show solidarity. Further information about the art night can be found on the website kunstnachtpassau.de to find.
