Art in the sign of climate protection: Coral exhibition in Vilshofen!

Vilshofen, Deutschland - in Vilshofen opened the remarkable exhibition “Tandem Humans-Corals” in the Galerie Websart on June 15, 2025. Organized by Robert Weber, who previously worked as a climate activist for Greenpeace, the exhibition consists of 262 small -format images that sharpen the awareness of climate change and the need to protect coral reefs. The works were previously presented in several German cities such as Munich and Hamburg before they find their last stop in Vilshofen, where they can be visited by July 20. The initiative goes back to a project by Clementine Klein, an artist and scientist from Cologne who launched the art project in 2020.

The heart of the exhibition is the urgency to comply with the 1.5 degree limit in global warming. With 142 participants from 68 locations in ten countries, the project shows an impressive range of creative work, with half of the 262 works on display being unique. Visitors to the gallery also have the opportunity to take part in a competition where you can vote for your favorite picture. The artist who receives most votes is awarded a cash prize, which gives the whole an additional incentive.

art as a tool for climate change

art plays an indispensable role when it comes to raising awareness of climate change and stimulating social conversations. As greenkama.org emphasizes, artists use their creativity to make complex topics tangible and arouse emotions. Projects such as “Tandem Humans-Corals” show how visual representations of climate change, such as photographs of melting glaciers or installations that simulate the increase in sea level, create an immediate experience of the possible consequences.

A remarkable example from Hamburg, which also deals with current exhibitions, is the event "Corals - Play of colors in art and science". Here 40,000 crocheted corals were presented in six artificial reefs. This joint project, initiated by the artists Christine and Margaret Wertheim, deals not only with the beauty of the corals, but also with pressing topics such as the pollution of the sea through plastic waste and the coral bleach. The exhibition runs from April 25 to August 10, 2025 in the International Maritime Museum Hamburg. It shows how versatile art can address different aspects of climate change and at the same time stimulate the audience for reflection.

commitment to climate protection

Mayor Florian Gams underlines the importance of the exhibition in Vilshofen and thanks Robert Weber for the initiative. It illustrates how important it is that the community deals with the challenges of climate change. "Economic policy goals are often too short," says Weber and appeals to the need to actively protect the earth.

in an age in which climate change is an ubiquitous threat, such projects are becoming more important. Art can offer a platform for discussions about climate protection measures and invite the public to reflect on their ecological footprint. Active participation in creative initiatives and workshops is seen as a way to assume personal responsibility for the environment and to promote dialogue through climate change. It is up to all of us to point out the importance of the protection of our earth and to actively stand up for a sustainable future.
