Ostallgäu daycare centers start: digitization for the little ones!

On July 16, 2025, seven daycare facilities from the Ostallgäu district were awarded in a solemn setting for their participation in the Bavarian -wide qualification program "Start Chance Kita.digital". A total of 15 representatives received documents in the district office who appreciate their commitment and progress in digital education. What does it mean to deal responsibly with media in a time of digitization? This is exactly the goal of this initiative, which was launched by the Bavarian Ministry of Family

The excellent facilities are: AWO Children's House Schatzkruhe and Awo-Kita Weidach from Füssen, Kindergarten St. Gordian, Kindergarten Epimach, as well as kindergarten St. Valentin from Pforzen, Kita St. Gabriel from Füssen, day care center in Untrasried and the Kita Sonnenschein in Obergünzburg. These kindergartens set signs for a modern educational approach that actively integrates digital media into everyday life. For a year, the daycare centers have acquired valuable knowledge of the creative use of digital media in photo, audio and film work and worked intensively with parents.

a responsible handling of media

according to kita-digital-bayern.de is digitization an unstoppable process that already shapes the living environment of small children. Many children gained initial experiences with digital media before entering the daycare center. The responsibility of the daycare centers is to accompany them and enable them to use these technologies with a safe manner. Children are entitled to participation and protection in the digital world. The campaign aims to promote this participation and convey the necessary skills to children.

The focus is on cooperation between daycare centers and parents: Projects and training are actively involved in the digital educational process. This not only promotes the children's technical know-how, but also a critical handling of digital content. The digitization strategy of daycare centers in Bavaria, which was decided in September 2020, offers the necessary support and infrastructure.

success story "Start chance Kita.digital"

Around 300 daycare centers in Bavaria have joined the program this year and the encouragement is great. In a survey, 96 percent of the previous participants appreciate the program and would recommend it. After completing the qualifications, the participating institutions become part of the "Kita.digital.Setzt" network, which includes over 1,420 Bavarian daycare centers. The implementation takes place by the State Institute for Early Pedagogy and Media Competence (IFP) and the JFF - Institute for Media Education, which together with specially trained coaches support daycare centers on their way to the digital future.

District Administrator Maria Rita Zinnecker praised the extraordinary commitment of the institutions for modern education, which is based on the challenges of the 21st century. Such initiatives make it clear that digitization in early childhood education is no longer a border issue, but a fundamental part of the educational offers of tomorrow. This development shows that in Ostallgäu there is a good hand for the future of the children.
