Nesselwang: Tourism is booming with 6% more guests in the first quarter!

The municipality of Nesselwang in Oberallgäu is at its best this year. Mayor Pirmin Joas is visibly satisfied with the current tourism numbers, which speak of an increase in the number of guests by six percent and an increase in overnight stays by two percent from January to April. These positive developments are remarkable when you consider that they take place in an economically uncertain environment. However, Mayor Joas warns that whether the record year 2024 can be exceeded depends on the upcoming economic developments. The Nesselwanger and numerous companies hope for a similar, perhaps even better summer than in the previous year, in which 114,160 guests counted with 288,221 overnight stays in the community, which corresponded to an average stay of 2.52 nights per guest, such as the shown.

Located in beautiful Allgäu, Nesselwang is not only popular with tourists, but also counts almost 3,900 inhabitants. The approximately 29.54 km² community has established itself as an important attraction for those seeking relaxation and nature lovers. With 43 accommodation companies and a total of 1,844 beds, Nesselwang offers a wide selection of accommodations. Apartments and Hotels garrison in particular have high growth. The current figures from Bayerns Tourismus report that holiday centers and apartments were added by 10.2 percent.

tourism in change

The review of 2024 shows a mixed trend in Bavarian tourism. While Nesselwang comes up with positive figures, the decline in guest houses and inns is striking. These had to accept a decline of over 7 % for overnight stays. Nevertheless, Nesselwang remains optimistic and scores with its diverse leisure opportunities in summer and winter, be it hiking, cycling or skiing.

As far as the population of Nesselwang is concerned, 3,882 people currently live here, the majority of whom is between 45 and 54 years old. The average age is 45.20 years, which is a stable and solid community. In the municipality, 1,921 people are subject to wages and income tax on the labor market, of which 1,649 are employed at the place of residence. These numbers indicate a strong local economy, balanced by low unemployment of 53 people, including 13 long -term unemployed.

future prospects

The challenges should not be underestimated, is the simple conclusion: "There is something". The uncertainty about future economic development could also influence tourism in Nesselwang. Mayor Joas will therefore continue to have an eye on the situation and hopes that the positive tendencies in the community will stop.

It remains to be seen whether the tourism numbers can actually confirm a new record year for Nesselwang. With all the positive developments that can be observed here, the entire community keeps their fingers crossed for a successful summer and a continued flourishing tourist season.
