Great fire in Leuchtenberg: farm and 100 cows in flames!
In the late Tuesday evening there was a devastating fire in Leuchtenberg, Neustadt district on Waldnaab, which put an entire farm in rubble and ash. According to BR was discovered at around 11:30 p.m. when the farmer was awakened by the desperate screaming of his cows. The flames spread quickly and not only moved the stables, but also machine halls and garages. Ultimately, six buildings burned down to the foundations.
The fire brigade was on site with a massive line -up of up to 300 emergency services to control the situation. The Bavarian Red Cross, the technical relief organization and the police were also on site and supported the extinguishing work, which lasted until the early hours of the morning. Georg Huber from the fire brigade stated that the cows were brought to an adjacent meadow and housed in surrounding farms, while the majority of the animals could not be saved. Tragically, at least four cattle died in the fire, while four more had to be put to sleep on the basis of injuries.
injured and damage
Two people, the owner and his son, suffered minor injuries, including burns and smoke poisoning, and had to be taken to the hospital. The total damage is estimated at several million euros. There were additional dangers on the agricultural estate: two diesel tanks near the stove also burned, which made the extinguishing work more difficult.
an uncertain fire
The cause of the fire remains unclear for the time being. Fire investigators will take the cause of the fire. In Germany there are no comprehensive statistics on agricultural fires, such as Agrarheute . Differences in data acquisition make it difficult to obtain reliable information about the causes of fire and numbers in agricultural businesses. An investigation shows that frequent causes of such fires can be defective electricity or arson.
For farmers in the region, this is not the first painful loss. Statistics on stable fires and their damage vary in the different federal states. The "Stall fire" initiative calls for more precise detectional regulations in order to be able to document such incidents better.
The water supply, the rescue of the animals and the access for the emergency services were also factors that had to be taken into account during the dramatic night. Despite the tragedy, the emergency services were extremely determined to do their best in a critical situation to prevent the worst. It is to be hoped that the situation will soon be better for the families concerned.
