Neumarkt celebrates Day for People with Handicaps” with 1165 visitors!
The wait is over! On August 12, 2025, the long-awaited “Day for People with Disabilities” took place in Neumarkt. The event was very popular and attracted a total of 1,165 visitors. Babsie Nedo, who is well known in the city, could hardly contain her excitement for this special event. In this country, more and more emphasis is being placed on breaking down barriers and promoting inclusion.
It was particularly pleasing that the city of Neumarkt allowed people with a disability level of 70 access for the first time this year. This meant that around 200 more Neumarkt residents were eligible for the event than in 2024. Great news for many who were looking forward to this day.
Diverse program and good atmosphere
As part of the celebrations, the Lebenshilfe Neumarkt Kellergang Band performed for the first time together with a newly formed band. Although the musicians only had one rehearsal before their performance, they conjured up a great atmosphere on stage. The audience loved the performances and the gathering brought so many people together, which is absolutely gratifying.
Each participant received two food vouchers and a drink voucher, although only Neumarkt residents were entitled to these treats. Unfortunately, there were some who could not prove this, which dampened the joy a little. The catering was perfectly tailored to the needs of the visitors, and the food sold like hotcakes.
Barrier-free access
A particularly touching story was that of Monika Vetter, a 70-year-old from Neumarkt who lives with polio. She was able to travel through the Jura Halls barrier-free and emphasized how important such access is. Meanwhile, Heinz Stich was looking forward to a ride on the Ferris wheel, another highlight of the day that brought joy to many.
Georg Kohlmann, the chairman of the Advisory Board for the Disabled, did not miss the opportunity to welcome the Anton residential group. This group includes people with traumatic brain injuries and took part in the event. For him it was an important sign of how much the topic of inclusion is lived here in Neumarkt. Such opportunities are not only social highlights, they also strengthen a sense of community.
Overall, the “Day for People with Disabilities” was a complete success and a pleasing example of how inclusion is practiced in society. It remains to be hoped that such events will become more common in the future to give even more people the opportunity to take part and feel good.
