TSV Neu-Ulm are crowned champions of the district league – promotion in sight!

The joy at TSV Neu-Ulm is huge! Last weekend the club won the championship title in the Donau/Iller district league and thus secured its ticket for the state league. Coach Stephan Baierl, a fixture on the coaching bench at the age of 48, prevailed with his team in an exciting duel against SC Staig. With 79 points and an impressive goal difference of 121:28, TSV was particularly characterized by their dominance in the second half of the season, where they were at the top both in terms of play and combat.

The last win in Altheim was particularly emotional when Luis Sailer-Fidalgo scored the decisive goal in stoppage time. Baierl emphasizes the importance of consistency: “That saved us from relegation,” said the coach. However, they also had to accept some setbacks. Injuries to some key players pose a challenge for the coming season.

Challenges and decisions

There have been a few changes in the squad that should now provide a breath of fresh air. This is how Lukas Kögel will end his career, Robin Schuhmacher will take a break after his knee operation and Luis Sailer-Fidalgo will move to Munich to study. Mateo Maric is also changing, hoping for more playing time. “We urgently need new players, especially in defense and flexible offensive forces,” emphasizes Baierl. Preparation for the new season starts on July 7th with an entertaining training camp from July 11th to 13th. At the same time, there are a few test games on the program: on July 13th against FV Illertissen II, on July 19th (opponent has not yet been determined) and on July 23rd against Ehingen-Süd.

The realignment in the state league is of great importance for TSV Neu-Ulm. Baierl also wants to optimize training conditions after discovering that the infrastructure was not optimal last season. The second half of the season was played primarily on artificial turf pitches, so the players now have the chance to prove themselves under the best conditions.

Further training strategy for trainers

An important aspect for the future success of the club is the continuous training of the trainers. The DFB recently changed the training system in order to regularly motivate coaches for further development, as B42 reports. This means that coaches like Baierl can draw on a wide range of tools to constantly improve their methods and use data to improve player performance. Especially in the new national league, this knowledge will be crucial in order to both promote individual strengths and work specifically on weaknesses.

In summary, TSV Neu-Ulm is facing an exciting time filled with new challenges but also great opportunities. With a clear strategy and a good knack for making the right decisions, promotion to the national league could not just be a temporary phase, but the beginning of a successful era.
