Chaos on the Isar: rubber boat capsized – and the police are there!
A hot weekend caused a lot of hustle and bustle in Munich, not only due to the sunny weather, but also due to some unpleasant incidents. On Sunday, July 6, 2025, several events in the city and the surrounding area were the focus of reporting.
A group of five friends from Munich were having fun on the Isar, but their rubber boat capsized at the Großhesseloher Bridge at around 4:05 p.m. Fortunately, everyone involved was able to get to safety after missing the warning signs about entering the weir system. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident and the damaged inflatable boat was recovered. However, three of the people will be charged under the Boating Regulations due to their alcohol levels. This is not entirely unknown, as Bavaria Police reports: Particular caution is required to ensure safety on the water.
Alcohol controls on the Isar
The police carry out regular checks to ensure safety on the Isar. On Saturday there was a major alcohol raid in Baierbrunn, where around 80 inflatable boats and kayaks were checked. A total of 250 people were screened. It turned out that 13 of them had more than 0.5 per mille in their blood. The front runner, a 26-year-old from Munich, had an astonishing 1.6 per mille in his blood. This not only has consequences for him, but also for the driving license office, which will be informed of the possible revocation. The [Abendzeitung München](https://www.abendzeitung-muenchen.de/muenchen/ Alcohol-razzia-auf-der-isar-bei-baierbrunn-bei-muenchen-spitzenreiter-hat-16-promille-im-blut-art-998229) reports that the boating regulations from 2020 provide clear rules for behavior on the Isar. For example, glass bottles and the attachment of dinghies are prohibited, and there are strict regulations regarding the maximum amount of alcohol for boat occupants.
Traffic chaos in Munich
But turbulence didn't just occur on the water. On land, several traffic accidents were on the agenda. In Bogenhausen there was a collision at 11:20 a.m. between a 64-year-old VW driver and a 61-year-old driver of a Mercedes van. The latter overturned and damaged a parked car. Both drivers were injured and taken to hospital, while the property damage amounts to over 15,000 euros.
Another accident occurred in Ramersdorf-Perlach, where a 29-year-old driver of his Suzuki overlooked a 49-year-old Renault driver while changing lanes. The Suzuki crashed into the pickup truck and then collided with a tree. Four occupants of the Suzuki were injured. The damage also amounts to around 15,000 euros.
Late in the evening there was another incident in Forstenried when a 19-year-old drove her Audi into an intersection at a red light and rammed two other vehicles. She and some passengers were also injured. The total damage here is around 18,000 euros and the young driver is now also facing a charge of negligent bodily harm.
All is not well with neighbors
The fire brigade was on duty in Obergiesing on Friday when a fire broke out in the bedroom of an apartment. Two people suffered minor injuries and had to be taken to hospital. The extinguishing work led to diversions in road traffic, with material damage amounting to five figures. Investigations are being carried out by the responsible police department.
A physical assault offense in the old town on Thursday also caused a stir. An argument between two drunken men resulted in mutual injuries. The 45-year-old was noticed for wearing an unconstitutional license plate and was taken into custody. The police initiate the necessary investigations.
Overall, despite summer temperatures and the urge to relax on the water and on the road, caution is still required to avoid accidents and other disruptions. The reminder to follow the rules remains inconspicuous, but crucial.
