Mühldorf is committed: 98 foster families and strong support for parents!

The Mühldorf district took a remarkable step in the foster care issue in 2024. Thanks to intensive public relations work via social media that started in March 2024, a total of 1,291 responses were received - 126 of which came directly from the district. 34 pairs of applicants and 9 individuals responded to the campaign, who then received training to prepare for their role as foster parents. These committed new foster families enrich the existing care provided by 98 active foster families in the district who look after the well-being of children in need of help.

The “Early Help” network was also discussed in a current report by the Youth Welfare Committee. It aims to support expectant parents and young families by establishing early contact with social institutions, midwives and advice centers. The clear goal is to promote stable family structures and reach parents as early as possible. This shows a positive trend towards strengthening families in the Mühldorf district.

Support for families and children

Another important aspect of social support is youth social work in schools (JaS), which is now established in 20 schools in the district. In 2024, 2,210 cases were processed, with over 1,700 affected by multiple contacts. Topics such as family crises, school difficulties and psychosocial problems are the focus here. This shows how important it is to offer supportive measures in schools and to work closely with families.

A special highlight in social commitment is the “Children's City Muetopia” project, in which 143 children transformed the area of the fire brigade training center into a mini city. This initiative not only promotes democratic understanding, but also an awareness of sustainability. Over 2,800 hours of volunteer work went into the project, which will continue next year.

The importance of mental health

An often overlooked topic in the context of family support is the challenges that accompany pregnancy and birth. Around one in eight women experience postpartum depression or anxiety disorder in the first year after giving birth, which often goes undiagnosed. The factors range from hormonal changes and complications to stressful birth experiences and previous psychological illnesses. The symptoms are diverse and can have a decisive impact on the well-being of family members.

We would like to point out at this point that men can also be affected and it is important to take concerns seriously. The first point of contact for help are midwives, gynecologists and pediatricians. Practical information can also be found on the websites www.shadow-und-licht.de and www.krisis-nach-der-natal.de.

Finally, the WeltKinderLachen® Foundation recently presented its work. Their mini fund offers quick emergency aid for children in emergency situations, be it for learning materials, therapies or leisure activities. This shows that the well-being of children and young people is at the top of the agenda in the Mühldorf district.

Overall, we are optimistic about the future: the district is actively tackling the challenges of youth welfare and family support and shows that a good network is important for parents and children. Through these initiatives, every child and every family can be offered a better perspective. Innsalzach24 reported that all of these measures contribute to strengthening the social fabric of the Mühldorf district.
