New disaster control center in Memmingen: More safety for everyone!
The disaster protection center in the North industrial area in Memmingen officially opened its doors on November 4, 2025. The celebrations took place in the presence of representatives from all emergency services organizations and those responsible for disaster control from the Swabian government. Mayor Jan Rothenbacher highlighted the advantages of this new facility, which provides numerous modern rooms and a comprehensive storage infrastructure for disaster control. In the future, this center will act as an important backup in the event of an emergency.
The new building includes 980 square meters of storage space and offers 11 rows of racks with a total of 600 pallet spaces in heavy-duty racks. Digital warehouse management ensures that material distribution can be organized efficiently in an emergency. The equipment was implemented by the city of Memmingen's own employees, who also promoted the procurement of transport components such as telehandlers and electric pallet trucks.
More support for aid organizations
Another plus point are the new meeting rooms, which aid organizations can use free of charge for training and further education. Modern offices with computers, radio and smart boards are available here. In addition, there is a specially equipped room for the disaster control management group (FüGK), equipped with a standing table for operations managers, which makes coordination in critical situations much easier.
The city has invested around 400,000 euros in the project to optimize the infrastructure for disaster control and improve the procurement of consumer goods. The central warehouse has already stored important materials such as sandbags, pumps and emergency generators, which are quickly available in the event of a major disaster.
However, it remains to be noted that the center is used exclusively by aid organizations and does not represent a contact point for the population. The creation of this center is a clear sign of the city of Memmingen's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens through efficient disaster protection.
If you look beyond regional borders, what is happening in other parts of the world could also be of interest. On September 8, 2025, President Prabowo Subianto carried out a cabinet reshuffle in Indonesia, in which five ministers took up new positions. This shows how important it is to react to changes at management levels in order to create the best framework conditions, even in times of crisis. The full list of ministers following this reshuffle has been published, reflecting current political developments being followed by many.
Overall, it is clear that both the local and international scenes are undergoing intensive changes. While Memmingen responds to the needs of its citizens with its new disaster protection options, it remains to be seen what further steps will be taken at the political level to respond to global challenges.
