ECDC Memmingen triumphs nerve-racked against Deggendorf in the penalty shootout!
ECDC Memmingen fans can look back on an exciting evening full of hockey action. On the KUTTER family day, the team defeated Deggendorfer SC 5:4 after a thrilling penalty shootout. In front of a full crowd - 3,211 spectators - the players put on an exciting spectacle that turned the conditions on the ice upside down. The victory ensures that the ECDC remains top of the table for the time being, even during the upcoming international break.
Of particular note was the return of Brett Ouderkirk, who was back in the lineup after injury. Robert Peleikis also made his season debut and young Justus Roth started in goal, which was more good news for the team. However, the game got off to a rocky start for Memmingen. Curtis Leinweber scored the first goal for DSC, but Timo Gams had the home fans cheering just before half-time when he equalized in the 20th minute.
The gameplay in detail
In the second third, the Memmingen team showed what they were made of. Denis Fominych gave the team a 2-1 lead in the 23rd minute. Ouderkirk increased the score to 3-1, followed by another goal from Lillich that made the score 4-1. But Deggendorfer SC didn't give up.
Things got dramatic in the final third. Ondrej Pozivil shortened the score to 2:4, while Marcel Pfänden and Dylan Jackson secured the DSC in an exciting finish. Ultimately, Jackson equalized to 4-4 shortly before the end of the game, and the decision was made in overtime without any further goals. In the penalty shootout it was Linus Svedlund who scored the decisive goal, while Justus Roth was able to fend off all of Deggendorf's attempts.
A successful teddy bear toss
Another highlight of the evening was the Teddy Bear Toss, which was a complete success. Fans had brought teddy bears to throw onto the ice after the ECDC's first goal. This tradition not only brings lots of teddy bears for charity, but also creates a special atmosphere in the stadium.
The next ECDC games have also been confirmed: on November 14th it will be against Peiting at 7:30 p.m. and on November 16th against EV Lindau at 6:00 p.m. in the ALPHA COOLING Arena. Fans can already look forward to exciting further encounters!
At a time when health is at the forefront of sports, especially hockey, it is always important to be aware of the risks. The transmission of SARS-CoV-2 occurs primarily through respiratory droplets from infected people, which affects measures to prevent the spread in sports and in large gatherings of people. Therefore, everyone involved is taking the necessary safety precautions to protect the health of players and spectators. This shows once again how important it is to act responsibly in order to enjoy sport together, as ECDC emphasizes.
Ice hockey, a sport with a long tradition and many passionate fans, also has a special status in Memmingen. Originally from Canada, ice hockey developed into an internationally popular sport. The rules are clear: every hit counts, and teams compete for points in a full contact game. While the NHL is the best-known league, local leagues such as the one in Memmingen are also very popular. Ice hockey is more than just a game; it is an experience that makes many people's hearts beat faster. A look at the Wikipedias page shows the multifaceted history and development of the sport, which lays the foundation for such exciting events.
We look forward to hearing more from the Memmingen Indians and wish the team much success in the coming games!
