Stetten is planning with Kulturgaden: moving from a sleeping village to a lively community!
Things are boiling in Stetten. The community's desire not to be a pure "sleeping village" is concretely underlined by the planned construction of a residential and cultural center, the "Kulturgaden". This step is intended to revitalize community events and social life in Stetten. The project will not only benefit the residents, but will also bring the community together and provide new impetus.
The founding of the Kulturgaden Stetten e.G. cooperative in February 2021 laid the foundation for this ambitious project. Rüdiger Amthor, Florian Burkard, Martin Burkard and Andreas Fella are the driving forces behind this initiative, which aims to make the community more lively. “But this requires more than just nice plans,” says Amthor. “The community must work together to achieve this goal.”
Sustainability and diversity in focus
In July 2021, the Karlstadt city council agreed to give the cooperative the area of the former school, including the playground and basement cellars, for the purpose of building the cultural center under leasehold. With the preparation of a project plan in December 2021, it will be specified that social housing and day care will find space in the new center. This offers residents and interested parties new opportunities to meet and design the living space together.
But it's not just the residents of the residential and cultural center who will benefit. Space for cultural events is also to be created in Kulturgaden, although this also raises concerns from neighbors. Concerns about possible noise pollution from music events and festivals are not unfounded. “We have to find the balance,” emphasizes local resident Rüdiger Amthor. “Culture must not come at the expense of a good night’s sleep!” These dilemmas need to be clarified as the cooperative continues to look for funding opportunities and engage in constructive discussions.
A call for participation
The development of Kulturgaden is a joint project. A Facebook post calls for anyone interested to get involved. “There is a lot to do and everyone can contribute something,” it is suggested. The first steps are already leading to positive feedback from the population, which gives hope for a vibrant future in Stetten.
Stetten no longer sees itself as just a quiet place where people come to sleep. Rather, a colorful place is being created here that promotes encounters and invites cultural development. Let's stay tuned to see what Kulturgaden has in store for the community and whether it will be possible to reconcile the various interests.
