Barker weekend in Lichtenfels: enjoyment and tradition combined!
Next weekend, the market square in Lichtenfels will once again shine with the scent of sausage and fish of the traditional market crier weekend, and the anticipation couldn't be greater. On Friday, November 7th, 2025, at 11 a.m., the celebrations start with a lively market crier's breakfast, where visitors get their money's worth with fish, sausage and free beer. The colorful offers from the market crier will be available daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Sunday, November 9th.
All in all, the traders of the “Real Guild of Market Criers” appear at this special festival, including well-known names such as “Käthe Kabeljau”, “Aal-Hinnerk”, “Nudel-Kiri”, “Milka-Maxx”, “Käse-Mai” and the newcomer “Wattwurm”, alias Martin Fischer from Eisfeld. This is celebrating its debut in Lichtenfels and brings with it hearty sausage products to enrich the barker tradition. He replaces the deceased “Wurst-Achim”, which also adds emotional value to the event.
A feast for all senses
Mayor Andreas Hügerich is enthusiastic and praises the city marketing team for their careful preparation. He wishes the traders good business and the barkers that they can hold out for the three days. “This weekend should be a celebration for all guests,” he emphasizes. The atmosphere throughout the market square is complemented by autumnal delights in the cafés and restaurants, as well as cultural offerings such as the fossil collection in the Obren Torturm and the municipal collections in the city palace.
A very special highlight this weekend is the Sunday shopping, which takes place on November 9th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can not only enjoy the delicacies from the market crier, but also go on a shopping spree in the shops and benefit from expert advice.
Setting cultural accents
In addition, participants can look forward to exciting special exhibitions, such as “The Fine Art of Braiding” by Esmé Hofman from the Netherlands and the exhibition “Rest your Bum – 4 seats, 4 seats”, presented by the graduating class of 2025 from the Lichtenfels State Vocational School for Wickerwork Design. These cultural highlights are open to visitors on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and more than successfully round off the overall offering.
