Kulmbach Old Town Festival: Peaceful course after turbulent incidents!
This year's old town festival in Kulmbach, which took place from July 7th to 8th, 2025, was peaceful overall, despite a turbulent start. Like that Bayreuther Tagblatt reports, the police praised the course of the event and attributed the low number of operations to the city of Kulmbach's proven security concept. The emergency services were supported by the police from Bayreuth and Hof, which had a positive effect on security.
Unfortunately, there was an incident in Langgasse on Friday evening around 9:40 p.m. where witnesses reported an argument. When the officers arrived, it turned out that a 29-year-old from Kulmbach, who tried to mediate, was himself attacked by the perpetrators. The use of a belt and pepper spray left facial injuries that required treatment in the hospital. The dispute originated in a conflict between a 28-year-old from Kulmbach and a group that also included a 27-year-old Syrian national. The In Franconia reports that the police are investigating suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
Quiet continuation of the festival
Early on Saturday morning at 4 a.m. there was another incident in the Upper City where a 21-year-old man from Mainleus hit a 26-year-old in the face, resulting in a nose injury. Two other passers-by who tried to mediate also suffered minor injuries. The 21-year-old, who drank a little beyond his thirst with an alcohol level of 0.8 per mille, is now being held accountable for bodily harm.
Another incident occurred around 1 a.m. when a 43-year-old from Kulmbach was checked on an e-scooter. His breath test showed a whopping 1.66 per mille, which led to a blood sample and a charge of drunk driving. Despite these incidents, the rest of the festival was to remain carefree, as the police reported only a quiet night's sleep and a relaxed festival activity in the following hours.
The people of Kulmbach continued to celebrate and, apart from these incidents, the general course of the old town festival remained peaceful. The city's initiative to refine the security concept and involve regional police forces was seen as very successful and was reflected in the quiet continuation of the celebrations over two days.
