Kaufbeuren celebrates: Rainbow Café opens for queer families!
A new chapter for queer families in Kaufbeuren begins on July 12, 2025, when the “Rainbow Café for Families” opens its doors for the first time. All interested families from the Allgäu are cordially invited to spend a pleasant afternoon in the premises of the Apfelkern family base, at Marktoberdorfer Straße 25, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This event is organized by the equal opportunities offices of the city of Kaufbeuren and the Ostallgäu district, supported by Allgäu Pride e.V. and the SchwubiS advice center. Visitors can expect a relaxed afternoon with cake, conversations and the opportunity to make new acquaintances.
The café aims to promote the visibility of queer families and enable open and safe exchange. The little ones are also taken care of: on-site childcare ensures that parents can talk to each other without any worries. If you want to be there, you should hurry up - registration is required by July 8, 2025 at the email address FSP-Apfelkern@web.de. We are reported to Kaufbeuren.
An important step for diversity
The Rainbow Café initiative is part of a new offering from the equality bodies that aims to support the needs of LGBTIQ* families. These novel programs represent an important item on the agenda to promote diversity and inclusion. So is the city of Kaufbeuren. At this first meeting, the focus is on exchange and laughter in order to create a network for queer parents and their children.
Current discussions on queer family models and the legal challenges are shown at an event that took place in Frankfurt on June 11, 2025, where information was provided about the legal framework for queer families under the motto “Queering Family – Between loving practice and discriminatory law”. Frankfurt University reports. This issue is also important for visitors to the Rainbow Café because there are many legal hurdles that must be overcome so that queer families are treated equally.
Overall, it shows that the Rainbow Café is not only a meeting place, but also a step towards greater acceptance and visibility for families who are often still marginalized in our society. The space created here could serve as a model for further initiatives in other cities and provide a sense of belonging and support for many families.
