Zugspitz Ultratrail 2025: Record participants and spectacular trails!
On Friday, June 13, 2025, it was that time again: The Salomon Zugspitz Ultratrail, Germany's largest trail running event, started and exceeded all expectations. How Mercury reported that a record 5,000 participants from 66 nations registered this year. The fact that the event is fully booked for the first time speaks for the immense popularity of trail running.
What is particularly impressive is the diversity of athletes who come from countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, the USA, Switzerland, France and Poland. The event includes a total of seven competitions covering various distances. A highlight this year is the newly introduced ZUT100, a 100-mile run that challenges participants and makes the event even more exciting.
The grand final day
The final three races are on the program on Saturday, June 14th: The Grainau Trail over 16 km with an altitude of 760 meters starts at 12 p.m. in Grainau. The Mittenwald Trail, which stretches over 44 km with an elevation gain of 1,860 meters, begins at 7 a.m. in Mittenwald. The conclusion is the Leutasch Trail, which, with 68 km and 2870 meters of altitude, attracts real altitude winners and starts at 9 a.m. in Leutasch/Weidach.
A special treat is the live broadcast of the Mittenwald Trail on YouTube from 7:30 a.m., moderated by Markus Oster. Viewers can follow the exciting pursuit of the participants from the comfort of their own home. The live center also offers interim results, tracking data and finishes in real time around the clock on the official ZUT website.
Technical innovations and services
There is an SMS service to keep the participants' relatives up to date. This makes it possible to keep friends and family informed of runners' status at any time as they pass the timing mat at the aid stations. Live tracking via the Racemap partner app is also offered so that the current position and progress of the participants can be tracked. However, users should be careful that the app can quickly use up the smartphone battery, which is why a power bank is advisable.
Thanks to the replay function, viewers can analyze the race in detail and compare themselves with other participants who also use DS Mobile tracking. Before the event, all participants receive a personal activation code and relevant information for tracking.
