Metropolmarathon 2025: Over 9,000 runners brave the summer heat!
An exciting weekend for all sports enthusiasts! The Sparkasse Metropolmarathon took place in Fürth and Nuremberg on June 22, 2025. Over 9,000 runners registered for the various competitions and the atmosphere was electric. The sun shone happily with summer temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius, which presented the participants with a special challenge.
The event was a true celebration for the entire region, where everything revolved around sport. Almost 6,000 participants took part in the marathon, half marathon and 10 km run on Sunday morning, while around 3,000 young athletes were able to prove themselves in the kids marathon on Saturday. From marathon to half marathon to other competitions such as the Pillenstein Kids Marathon, the 4.2 km run and Nordic walking, there was something for every taste.
Political presence and medical challenges
The spectacle was rounded off by the presence of several political representatives. Mayor Marcus König was there for the half marathon, as was Cornelia Trinkl, the school and sports consultant, and the two Fürth politicians Thomas Jung and Markus Braun. Their support underlined the importance of the event for the region.
But not everything went without incident. The hot temperatures meant that several rescue missions were necessary. Ten participants had to be taken to the Fürth Clinic, including two in critical condition. This emphasizes the importance of good medical care and the commitment of the rescue workers, who were available at all times to ensure that all participants received the best possible care.
Outlook for 2026 and registrations
There is already positive news for everyone who loves the challenge or who hasn't had enough of the sporting activities yet. The next Sparkasse Metropolmarathon is planned for June 14, 2026, the route will again lead from Fürth to Nuremberg.
