Freising district is upgrading: new roll-off containers for flood protection!
In good news for disaster control, the Freising district today received two new roll-off containers for transporting sandbags. This initiative is part of a comprehensive package of measures that addresses the lessons learned from the flood events of recent years. The basis for the current investments were the dramatic heavy rain events of 2020 and 2023 as well as the flood situation in June 2024, which made it clear how important quickly available and flexible resources are. As the Freising district press office reported, the total costs of the procurement measure amount to around 200,000 euros.
The district didn't waste its time and invested in a modular and quickly scalable system with roll-off containers. Each of these new containers can store a total of 1,400 pre-filled sandbags, housed in five compartments. A sandbag filling system was also purchased that can be operated efficiently independent of the local power supply. The facility can produce more than 4,000 sandbags per hour across seven workstations, supported by a telescopic handler that optimizes logistics in the disaster relief camp. This overall package is intended to ensure that the district can react quickly to flood events.
Technical equipment with foresight
The investments in the new roll-off containers are not the only measures to improve disaster protection in the region. Two swap loader vehicles had already been procured and are now stationed at the Technical Relief Agency (THW) and a volunteer fire department. Another important element of the equipment are the mobile flood protection walls, which were purchased in 2024 and are specifically designed to deal with sudden surface water. These can be combined with identical community protective walls, which increases efficiency during flood operations. The Federal Environment Ministry also emphasizes that climate change, like an invisible companion, is bringing with it increasingly serious weather extremes in Germany, which undoubtedly make solid disaster prevention more and more urgent.
The multitude of developments in the field of flood protection shows a clear trend: technology must adapt to increasing requirements. The company SAQUICK is committed to actively supporting this development. The delivery of high-performance sandbag filling machines, such as the SAQUICK Titan 2400, aims to optimally equip emergency services for disaster relief. Lower Saxony has already shown the way and ordered 46 of these machines in order to learn from experiences gained from past flood disasters and invest in better equipment.
A strong sign that the response to natural events in Germany will become increasingly important in the coming years. The challenges facing communities due to the climate crisis make it clear that good preparation is the key to coping with flood and heavy rain events. The course for future disaster protection measures will undoubtedly continue to be set in the Freising district.
