The 15th Africa Festival is just around the corner and the anticipation in Freising is already palpable. As the South German newspaper reported, the grand opening of the festival will be celebrated on Thursday, June 19th at 4 p.m. in the Luitpoldanlage. A colorful program awaits visitors, and the best thing about it: entry is free!
The guests of honor include Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher, District Administrator Helmut Petz, cultural officer Nico Heitz and migration officer Samuel Fosso. Particularly noteworthy is Togbui K.A. Toulassi II, the head of the Ewe, who graces the ceremony with his presence.
Colorful program for all age groups
The Africa Festival is not only very popular among adults. A special highlight are the children's activities, which include face painting and drumming workshops. The market opens on Thursday from 2 p.m., where food stalls and a beer garden await visitors.
The musical supporting program promises first-class entertainment. On Thursday, the drum group Pamuzinda from Zimbabwe and the Swahili Blues Band will perform, among others. Friday offers a mix of live performances from local artists and the RNC Comedy & Fashion Show, which will provide moments of laughter and amazement from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Sporting highlights and celebrations
A real hit will also be the “Afrolink Cup” soccer tournament, which will take place on Saturday, June 21st, in the Savoyard Au from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., supported by the Eintracht Freising sports club. On Saturday, guests can also look forward to other music acts, such as the Brazilian samba group Todentro and the drum group Otumfuo from Ghana.
Sunday will then be filled with a tribute to the players of the soccer tournament at 3 p.m. and a final concert by Etane Blex and DJ Onit. Last but not least, there will also be an afterparty on Saturday evening to celebrate.
