Hummel Challenge in Forchheim: Discover our domestic species!

In the beautiful region of Forchheim, a remarkable project will be launched from today until July 3, 2025: the Hummel Challenge. Organized by the BUND nature conservation in close cooperation with the Thünen Institute in Braunschweig, this Initiative aims to document the occurrence of domestic bumblebee species in and around Forchheim. If you are interested in the flying beneficials, you can take part in a very uncomplicated manner and report your observations. As reports [wiesentbote.de] (https://www.wiesentbote.de/2025/06/21/hummel-in-forchheim-und-wunden-zecken-und- determines, photography of bumblebees and their determination with the app is part of the participant task.

Participants can simply take pictures of the bumblebees by smartphone, follow the BUND of the BUND nature conservation website and report their finds via the obsidentify or observation apps. These apps not only enable the bumblebees, but also invite you to provide additional information such as gender or behavior. Friedrich Oehme from the BN district group forchheim emphasizes how important these messages are in order to contribute to biodiversity and species protection. In particular, data about rare bumblebee types, such as the toner dumplings, have already been collected by similar actions.

just start

Participation in the Hummel Challenge is very simple. The obsidentify and observation apps can be downloaded with a few clicks. While obsidentify helps to determine the bumblebees, observation enables deeper documentation of the sightings. A special feature is that users have the opportunity to keep sightings confidential - ideal for those who do not want to show their observations publicly.

For the best observations, not only every bumblebee is invited to count, but also paid attention to the plants that attract the little animals. Flocetle flowers, snake head, Dost, Warte and many other plants that attract bumblebees and ensure spectacular photos are currently blooming.

nature and technology combined

An exciting aspect of the Hummel Challenge is the connection between civil research and modern technology. The platform observation.org, which comes from the Netherlands, is specially designed for nature observations and is based on the European data protection standards. According to BUND-Naturschutz.de, the determination software Nia is monitored by real experts, which ensures the quality of the transmitted data. This enables valid documentation and helps to further promote biodiversity in our beautiful Bavaria.

In addition, a status of biodiversity monitoring offers numerous advantages for companies. As explained artenglueck.de, collected data can be used to measure the social and economic value of nature conservation projects. The trust of the stakeholders is strengthened by transparent measures and shows that commitment to nature conservation is not only important, but also future -oriented.

The Hummel Challenge in Forchheim not only offers valuable knowledge for nature conservation, but also a great way to become active for all nature lovers. So each of us can draw attention to the fascinating world of bumblebees with a photo and at the same time do something for the preservation of biodiversity. If you want to participate, you can find all further information on the website of the BUND Nature Conservation
