Would be the focus: exhibition Würdemenschen in Erlangen!

Erlangen, Deutschland - "The dignity of man is inviolable." This is how the German Basic Law begins and is viewed by many as a leitmotif of social interaction. This is exactly where the impressive “Würdemen” art project comes in, which was launched by the artist Jörg Amonat. It all started in Jena in 2019 and has now found his way to Erlangen. The project, which is also supported by the city twinning, has set itself the goal of creating an awareness of the dignity of each individual and Amonat uses various creative methods.

in Erlangen, where the project was successfully continued in 2021, the participants come from various social and cultural institutions. They have created personal “dignitory”, which reflect on their individual view of dignity with pictures and texts. From June 27 to the end of September 2025, part of this project will be exhibited in the children's and youth clinic of the Erlangen University Hospital. Only children and adolescents were asked about dignity. The exhibition is about 40 plates that are located on the ground floor of the bed house of the children's clinic, Loschetstraße 15. Chara Gravou-Apostolatou, which emphasizes the importance of this project.

The power of the talks

A central aspect of the project are the discussions that are held with the participants. These conversations take place in various contexts, for example with school classes or in a homeless club. The artist Amonat emphasized how important personal perspective is in these dialogues. "Dignity is a design process in which everyone can actively participate," he says. With up to five dates per day and a lively exchange, Amonat hopes for a broad response, similar to in Jena, where the topic was taken up by the population.

The reaction of students from the monkey school in Büchenbach, who wrote personal letters to the project, was particularly moving. These experiences teach not only the participants, but also the visitors to the exhibition, to think about their own self -image, to question clothing, objects and even their own posture. This personal examination of the topic is an integral part of the project and ensures deep insights.

a positive echo

The feedback from participants and organizations in Erlangen are consistently positive. In all of these efforts, the project is also funded by the "Tiger eye" association - Initiative Kinderhospiz Nordbayern. The exhibition is accessible for visitors during the day and offers an excellent opportunity to deal with the topic of dignity. The artist Amonat and his partner team set a valuable sign for a respectful and appreciative society.

Interested parties who would like to learn more about the project can contact Karin Büttner directly on Tel. 09131 85-35982 or by email to Kinderpalliativzentrum (at) uk-erlangen.de. Amonat hopes that the art project not only gets a conversation about dignity in Erlangen, but also beyond and contributes to keeping this central question of human coexistence into awareness.
