Sad end: Judith's treasure room in Höchstadt closes forever!
In a sad announcement, the owner of “Judiths Schatzstube” in Höchstadt, Judith Rehäß, has announced the closure of her shop for Saturday, December 20, 2025. She made this decision with a “heavy heart” as it has offered a valuable platform for regional amateur artists in recent years. Since September 2021, they have been able to present their handicrafts for a fee and Rehäß passed them on to interested customers. But economic challenges and strong competition from the Internet have led to the closure, as inFranken reports.
The aim of the “Schatzstube” was to create moments of well-being and to counteract the vacancy in the Höchstadt city center. Rehäßer looks back gratefully on the inspiring conversations and the joy of the customers who supported her idea. “I’m sorry that I have to go this route,” said the owner.
A heart for arts and crafts
However, after the closure, Judith Rehäß does not want to completely disappear from the scene. She plans to continue to accept individual requests and keep the shop window as a small exhibition space. Special updates on new projects will be published on the “Schatzstube” website. In addition, Rehäßer has the idea of having its own online shop in order to be able to gain a further foothold in the digital world. Craft markets will also remain part of their future plans.
This news comes in a context that is challenging for many small business owners in the creative industries. The cultural and creative industries in Germany, which also includes the art market, have developed strongly in recent years. In 2023 it achieved sales of almost 205 billion euros and employed almost two million people. But the various sectors, including music, fine arts and design, are sometimes facing major challenges. Even in the art market, which only generated around 2.5 billion euros, the economic conditions are not always easy, as Statista explains.
Culture and creativity in general change
The origin of the term “culture” is also interesting. Originally it refers to the cultivation of the land and the preparation for cultivation and comes from the Latin “cultura”, which means “cultivation”. This meaning has changed greatly over the centuries and now encompasses very different aspects such as learning, taste and the intellectual side of civilization. The diversity of culture is also reflected in the creative industries, which are characterized by their creative and diverse orientation, as described on etymonline.
For Judith Rehäßer and many others in the creative scene, the hope remains that, despite the challenges, new ways can be found to promote art and culture and reach a broader audience.
