180 believers on the Star Pilgrimage: Experience hope and community!
Last Sunday evening the atmosphere in Eichstätt was absolutely worthy of a pilgrimage. The deanery pilgrimage, which was taking place for the 34th time, drew 180 believers from the Volksfestplatz to the majestic Eichstätter Cathedral. This means that the number of participants has increased significantly compared to the previous year, when only 130 pilgrims were on the move. This positive development shows that pilgrimage continues to be very popular, as diocesan administrator Alfred Rottler noted.
The pilgrimage, which had the motto “Come and go with us,” had one central concern: prayer for spiritual vocations. It was created to honor St. Willibald, the founder of the diocese, whose grave was visited in the cathedral. Albert Meier, chairman of the Pilgrimage Committee, was visibly pleased with the lively participation and thanked everyone who contributed to the organization.
A festive atmosphere
In total, around 250 believers celebrated a festive service in the cathedral, which was led by diocesan administrator Alfred Rottler and Dean Josef Funk and was accompanied musically by the Cantabile choir from Beilngries. In his sermon, Rottler expressed the connection between pilgrims and hope in a sensitive way, which was clearly good for those present. Dean Funk also took the opportunity to thank Albert Meier for his impressive 25 years of organizing the pilgrimage.
The pilgrimage itself was a well-organized event, with starting points such as Beilngries, Pfraundorf and Kipfenberg. A harmonious coexistence among the participants was promoted by the various breaks for lunch and refreshments in Pfahldorf, Wasserzell and Buchenhüll before the groups arrived at the Volksfestplatz at 5:00 p.m.
A look at tradition
The star pilgrimage is a deeply rooted tradition that impresses with its festive and spiritual elements. The participants had the opportunity to march in a procession through the city to the High Cathedral, accompanied by the Möckenloh brass band. The festive pilgrimage service began at 6 p.m., where many were able to feel direct contact with faith.
In conclusion, it can be said that the pilgrimage was not only a religious event, but also a sign of the believers' sense of community and connection to their tradition and spiritual roots. bistum-eichstaett.de and dekanat-eichstaett.de confirmed the successful implementation and the positive response to this inspiring event.
