Demand for a dog license: safety for people and animals!
A tragic incident has recently caused a stir and has reignited the debate about the need for a dog license in Bavaria. A few days ago there was a tragic incident in Tulling in which a dog was killed and its owner was injured. According to the report by Mercury PETA is now increasingly calling for the introduction of a mandatory dog license. The organization emphasizes that it is often not the dogs themselves but their owners who are responsible for such incidents.
Surveys repeatedly show that many dog owners have difficulty correctly interpreting the behavior and body language of their four-legged friends. PETA recently conducted a survey that found 68% of adults living in Germany support the introduction of a dog license. This would include a theory course intended to inform future dog owners about species-appropriate husbandry and communication.
The demands are gaining momentum
In addition to Tulling, another incident in Coburg is also relevant and fuels the discussion. Here a 42-year-old was bitten on the hand of a 49-year-old by a dog running loose. The dog's owner is now facing investigations for negligent bodily harm and insult. Loud NP Coburg PETA is taking action again in this case and is demanding a competency test for dog owners.
PETA highlights that dog license regulations already exist in other cities, which could be an impetus for Bavaria to take similar measures. A dog license could not only impart theoretical knowledge, but also strengthen the bond between dog and owner through practical seminars.
Commitment at the local level
In Steinhöring, the commitment to dog licenses goes so far that the mayor, Martina Lietsch, is clearly in favor of this initiative. The municipality plans to contact the owner of the wolf dogs and decide on further steps. The aim is to ensure that dog owners can handle their animals competently in order to avoid dangerous situations and increase safety for everyone.
The need for a dog license is undisputed in light of recent incidents. The hope is that through targeted training and better communication between dog and owner, such attacks can be avoided in the future. After all, there is nothing more important than harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.
