Swabian selection of young talent: Local talents in the focus of football!

There is reason to be happy in the Donau-Ries district: four talented young footballers have been nominated for the Swabian selection. Lion Gebel from Wallerstein, Benedikt Brenner from Ederheim, Elias Schneid from Wemding and Mohammed Dibrani from Löpsingen represent the 2009 class (U16) at TSV 1861 Nördlingen. This selection not only has a long tradition, but also an impressive historical reference, as the current national coach Julian Nagelsmann was once a participant himself, back then under the coaching of Thomas Tuchel. The Swabian selection trip runs from August 16th to 23rd, 2025.

With regard to the supervisory staff, the name that comes to mind is Fabian Schmidt, who was born in Maihingen and took on responsibility at a tournament in Nördlingen in 2018. He receives support from Armin Stich from Kaufbeuren and Richard Mayrhofer from Steinheim/Dillingen. Their expertise seems to have paid off: a friendly against FC Augsburg's U16 team was won impressively 6-3. So you can say that the Swabian selection has a good hand.

Social engagement in football

These awards not only illustrate the sporting ambition, but also the social responsibility that comes with football. The President of the Bavarian Football Association, Jürgen Pfau, emphasized the importance of such projects and their positive effects on the community. The Sepp Herberger Awards annually present prizes for volunteer work in football in various categories, including handicap football and the rehabilitation of prisoners.

A look into the future

Given the increasing demands in football, it is gratifying to see how young talents from Bavaria in particular are being supported. The success of the Swabian selection and the commitment of FC Augsburg show that sport is more than just a competition - it is also a social glue.

The coming weeks should be exciting when the new generation of players have the opportunity to prove themselves and show that even small places in the Donau-Ries can achieve big things. The journey of the Swabian selection could be the start of a promising career for the four nominees.
