Bayreuth is fighting against the housing shortage: new construction project for over 1000 people!
The city of Bayreuth is facing a real dilemma: living space is becoming scarce and the pressure on the real estate market is growing. But the city administration has a plan to counteract this trend. It is focusing on a densification project between Justus-Liebig-Straße and Schwindstraße in order to create new, affordable living space and thus relieve the pressure on the housing market. How Bayreuther Tagblatt reports, the municipal housing association GEWOG will be in charge of this project.
The focus is clearly on the urban development of the area around Menzelplatz. A sustainable housing stock is to be created here that is well connected and will offer space for over 1,000 people. The development area called “Joseph” will be built between Nürnberger Straße and Universitätsstraße. The city council initiated the development plan process at the end of May and the draft plan will be publicly available from June 16th to July 18th.
Invitation to participate
What is special about this project is the opportunity for citizens to actively participate. Suggestions and comments on the development plan can be submitted electronically or in person at the city planning office. Anyone who would like to find out more about the project has the opportunity to do so both online and on site in the New Town Hall, on the 9th floor, Luitpoldplatz 13. Opening times are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“We want citizens to contribute their ideas and suggestions,” says the responsible project manager. This is an opportunity for the population to express their ideas and thus actively shape the cityscape.
Sustainable urban development in focus
Another important concern of the city is the sustainable development of new living space. Vertical compaction, explained PWC, means that existing areas can be used better without sealing off valuable green spaces. This not only promotes the climate, but also improves the quality of life. In addition, modern construction methods, such as timber construction, can significantly reduce energy consumption.
With such an approach, Bayreuth not only pursues economic interests, but also focuses on social mix and an improvement in urban life. According to the findings of Studyflix Sustainability is now essential in urban development. As urbanization increases, it is crucial to find solutions that meet the challenges of population growth.
The path to a sustainable city has been paved. Bayreuth shows that through clever planning and citizen participation, new, attractive and, above all, affordable housing can be created. Let’s go, Bayreuth – let’s get to it!
