Bayreuth is looking forward to the Christmas market: opening on November 24th!
The anticipation for the contemplative time of the year is growing in Bayreuth, because on Monday, November 24th, the traditional one takes place at 5 p.m Christmas market opened. Mayor Thomas Ebersberger will hold the festive opening together with the new Christ child, 16-year-old Lisa Damisi. For Lisa, who is a WWG student, it is a special honor because she will shine in the golden robe of the Christ child for the first time and is already looking forward to greeting the little visitors and receiving their wish lists.
This year the Christmas market stretches between the hospital church and the old castle and offers a wealth of culinary delicacies and handmade items until December 23rd. With a total of 40 stands presenting a colorful selection of Christmas decorations, gift ideas and regional specialties, visitors will lack for nothing. The range ranges from hearty gingerbread and children's punch to roasted almonds and aromatic mulled wine. Anyone looking for the perfect Christmas present will find what they are looking for here.
Shiny lights and a festive atmosphere
A special highlight of the Bayreuth Christmas market is the longest string of lights in Franconia. With an impressive length of six kilometers and 16,000 LED bulbs, it creates an atmospheric atmosphere in the city center. This splendor of lights is brought to life by the Bayreuth City Center Protection Association and will certainly captivate many visitors.
But Christmassy Bayreuth has even more to offer: The winter village and the star market in St. Georgen open their doors on the first Advent. Here guests can get together comfortably, warm up with mulled wine and enjoy the pre-Christmas atmosphere. The winter village, which has been open since October, offers rustic huts, various types of mulled wine and musical entertainment until December 31st.
Part of the great tradition
Christmas markets have a long tradition in Germany and attract millions of visitors every year. A look across national borders shows that markets like this Dresden Striezelmarkt or that Augustus Christmas market, are also big crowd pullers who make hearts beat faster with their unique offers and festive programs.
