Bavaria honors District Administrator Thomas Bold with the Order of Merit in Munich!

The political landscape in Bavaria has once again produced a shining star: District Administrator Thomas Bold from the Bad Kissingen district. On July 11, 2025, he was honored with the Bavarian Order of Merit, one of the Free State's highest awards. The ceremony took place in Munich, where Prime Minister Markus Söder personally honored the recipient. In his laudatory speech, Söder highlighted Bold's "highly impressive local political record" and underlined his passion and commitment to the citizens of his district.

But what makes this prize so special? The Bavarian Order of Merit has been awarded since 1957 and honors outstanding services to the Free State of Bavaria and the Bavarian people. No one could deserve this honor more than Thomas Bold, who is deeply rooted in local self-government not only as district administrator but also as the former mayor of the municipality of Wartmannsroth.

A life for the community

Thomas Bold has worked tirelessly for his community and the entire district since 1990. From the first mayor to the district administrator, his commitment to improving life in Bad Kissingen is admirable. An important aspect of his political work is the focus on the common good: he is committed to the expansion and maintenance of schools, sports facilities, hospitals and retirement homes. His commitment to promoting club life and volunteer work is also noticeable.

Particularly noteworthy is his passionate commitment to telemedicine in the Bad Kissingen district. Bold is co-founder of the Center for Telemedicine association and made a significant contribution to the district receiving the “Health Region Bavaria” quality seal. These awards underline its continued efforts to secure and improve medical care for its citizens.

Previous awards and involvement

The long list of his achievements also includes the Municipal Medal of Merit in silver, which was awarded to him in Würzburg in 2018 by State Secretary Gerhard Eck. A total of eleven personalities were honored on this occasion, but Bold's extensive involvement in local self-government for 28 years now makes him a role model for many. He began his political career in the Wartmannsroth local council and was always committed to strengthening the district as an economic location and modernizing the infrastructure.

His sense of responsibility and compassion for the people in his region are not only noticeable in his political work, but also in his commitment to environmental and nature conservation. The expansion of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve is particularly important to him.

Overall, it is such merits that make the Bavarian Order of Merit an appropriate award for Thomas Bold. As the Government of Upper Bavaria explains, such awards not only represent individual achievements, but also cohesion and the promotion of positive development for all Bavarian citizens.

The Bad Kissingen district can be proud to have such a committed district administrator at its helm. The award is not only an honor for Bold himself, but also a confirmation of the shared values and commitment that is helping to shape the future of this region.
