Scholz will remain district archive keeper in the district for another five years!

In the southern district of Amberg-Sulzbach, Siegfried Scholz remains active as a volunteer district archive keeper. His official appointment for another five years was recently confirmed by District Administrator Richard Reisinger and Dr. Maria Rita Sagstetter, head of the Amberg State Archives. Scholz, who has held the voluntary position since 2015, not only brings a lot of experience, but also a deep passion for the stories of his homeland, which have accompanied him since his childhood.

His commitment has been recognized for a decade now. There are a total of two district archive keepers in the district: In addition to Scholz, Dr. Markus Lommer is responsible for the northern communities. This structure guarantees comprehensive support of the municipal archives, which is particularly important because the archive custodians support the cities and municipalities with all questions relating to archives. This includes not only storage and packaging, but also the inventory of documents and materials.

Important tasks and support for communities

In Bavaria, it is common practice in every district to appoint one or more volunteer archive keepers. Your official function is supported by a certificate of appointment and a service card. The archive keepers advise the communities regarding municipal archives and make a decisive contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage. The central tasks include the preparation of archive regulations and the creation of usage regulations. The creation of suitable archive rooms and the decision on the archiving or destruction of documents are also part of their area of responsibility. They regularly report their findings to the responsible state archives.

Scholz serves a variety of communities, including Ammerthal, Birgland, Ebermannsdorf and many more. It is the responsibility of the archivist to make practical suggestions to communities and to personally discuss emerging archival issues.

Protection of cultural assets in times of crisis

Collection points, for example in the Munich city archives and other cities, have been set up. Aid organizations such as Blue Shield Deutschland e.V. accept monetary donations, and there is a network of organizations actively working to provide materials. The aim is to protect and restore cultural assets in Ukraine. Those interested can find out more information on the website notfallverbund.de.
