Amberg celebrates self-help: Summer get-together 2025 inspires volunteers!
At the end of July, a very special summer get-together took place in Amberg, which honored the commitment and tireless efforts of the volunteer members from the various self-help groups. Organized by the city's contact point for self-help groups, Mayor Martin J. Preuß, together with social officer Susanne Augustin, welcomed a total of 36 active participants from 24 different groups. This meeting was not only an opportunity for thanks and appreciation, but also served as a platform for looking ahead to future projects.
The city of Amberg demonstrated its recognition this evening with culinary delights. The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting, and participants were able to exchange ideas about their previous experiences and challenges. Particularly highlighted were the employees of the self-help contact point, Kerstin Bauer and Christina Struzyna, who received a small gift for their ongoing support. Their work is seen as indispensable by the members of the self-help groups Central Bavarian reported.
A look at the new offers
Kerstin Bauer not only presented the new edition of the self-help directory, but also the new half-yearly program for the months from August to December 2025. This program has some exciting offers, including information stands and training courses to improve conversation skills. For many, it is a valuable opportunity to further their education and promote exchange among one another. The new offer was received with great interest and many participants were pleased with the numerous opportunities available to them.
What is particularly pleasing is the formation of new groups, which also presented themselves at the summer regulars' table. These include self-help groups for COPD/asthma, INSEAners, heart health and a group that is currently dealing with the topic of “violence against women”. These initiatives show that the topic of self-help is very important in the region and continues to grow.
Valuable volunteer work
The work of volunteers is not only valued in the city of Amberg, but is also considered valuable, which is reflected in the diverse tasks of the members. These range from organizing rooms and coordinating events to designing information materials. The volunteers are also active in public relations work and applying for funding and make a significant contribution to the success of the group work.
This summer get-together was not only a celebratory occasion, but also an important impetus for the coming months. In an environment where mutual support and shared exchange prove to be the key to success, the future of self-help groups in Amberg lies in good hands. Upper Palatinate Echo shows that voluntary care and open dialogue not only contribute to strengthening the community, but are also crucial for the personal well-being of those affected.
