A tragic murder case is preoccupying people in the Allgäu: the Sonja Hurler case, which has remained unsolved for over 44 years. On July 4, 1981, 13-year-old Sonja disappeared on the way to her grandmother's after an argument with her mother. Three months later, her body was found near a barn, and since then police and the public have been puzzling over the perpetrator. There are indications that Sonja was the victim of a sexual act, but the investigation has so far made no significant progress.
Currently it has South German newspaper We learned from the Kempten criminal police that the renewed investigation had uncovered a new DNA trace. In particular, a DNA series test was carried out on around 300 men, but it did not show a match with the DNA found on evidence in 2022. Men who lived nearby at the time of the disappearance were also asked to provide saliva samples.

The Kempten police say that they will continue to press ahead with the investigation despite the unsuccessful DNA analysis. However, for tactical reasons, the next steps cannot be discussed in detail. One point of particular interest to the public is the school summer festival that took place on July 4, 1981 in the Thingsers district. Music bands played there and there were numerous visitors, including many high school students from Kempten. It remains to be seen whether this festival could offer new approaches to solving the case.
The circumstances of Sonja Hurler's disappearance and the ongoing efforts of investigators show that the case has not been forgotten. It is hoped that the new DNA results will soon shed light on the matter and that the proceedings will be brought to a fair conclusion.
