The "West Side Story" is not a lower work as one of the most famous American operas that was premiered in 1957 at Broadway in New York. The musical developed into a box office hit within a very short time and found its way to the big screen in 1961, where it won ten Oscars. This piece combines music and drama in a masterly way and tells the tragic love story, which has parallel to Shakespeare's "Romeo and Julia". Protagonists are Tony, a member of the jets, and Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the rival Sharks.

The action is characterized by a bitter conflict between the jets, a gang of white American teenagers under the leadership of riff, and the Sharks, which consist of immigrants from Puerto Rico.
