The winding path to get there hasn't just been in the planning stages since yesterday - the city has been working towards this goal since 2008 and has been able to call itself a health resort since 2009. For Mayor Matthias Beck, the most recent recognition as a spa on February 24, 2025 was a “deserved reward” for the tireless work of the city administration and citizens. In the future, Weißenstadt will be known as Bad Weißenstadt, making it one of the newest spa resorts in Germany, as Reise Reporter reports.

What is special about Bad Weißenstadt is not just the new name, but also the criteria that must be met for recognition as a spa. Natural remedies such as thermal water, a spa park and barrier-free facilities that can be used for spa and recreational purposes are indispensable. The city can already rely on an efficient spa center with radon and whole-body cold therapies and offers guests an attractive bathing and sauna area in the new Siebenquell thermal baths. These steps are crucial so that Weißenstadt meets all the necessary requirements to carry the “spa” title and so that the city can also collect tourist tax, which is only permitted for state-recognized places.
