Yesterday evening, November 16th, 2025, the VR-Bank Würzburg Baskets Academy lost 73:88 to the Skyliners Juniors Frankfurt in a thrilling home game in the Turnhölle. It was the 9th matchday of the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProB, and the team couldn't withstand the pressure from Frankfurt.
The grapes were hanging high for the home baskets, who had difficulties from the start. Frankfurt quickly broke away and was already leading 7-2 after just two minutes. In the 8th minute there was an impressive 21:6 spurt by the Skyliners, which put the Würzburg team in an uncomfortable starting position (13:23). Although the Baskets fought their way to 40:45 by halftime, the momentum remained on the guests' side.
Strong individual performances, but weak team play
Würzburg's best throwers were Christian Skladanowski, who collected 18 points and 15 rebounds, and Marko Petric, who shone with 27 points and five three-pointers. Jervis Scheffs also contributed 16 points. Despite these strong individual performances, the team as a whole was not effective enough. The Würzburgers were not convincing in the two-point quota, only hitting 33% compared to Frankfurt's 58%. They also missed 18 turnovers and allowed the opponent to get 12 offensive rebounds, which was ultimately decisive in the defeat.
Frankfurt's top performers were Jamie Edoka with 27 points and three three-pointers, Ivan Crnjac, who contributed 16 points with four three-pointers, and Florian Dietrich, who scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. The Skyline Juniors demonstrated what effective teamwork can look like on the floor.
