Würzburg student inspires with Solar-E-Bike for Jugend forscht!

What an impressive success for the youth from Würzburg! In the heart of Hamburg, the federal final of "Jugend Forscht" took place, where Clara Hoppach, a 16-year-old student of the Riemenschneider-Gymnasium, shone with her innovative project "Solarrad 3.0". A total of 167 young researchers from all over Germany took part and presented impressive 112 research projects at the Helmut-Schmidt University. Over 10,350 children and adolescents took part in this renowned competition with 5664 projects. The motto: "Make answers from questions!"

Clara convinced the jury with its self-loading e-bike, which not only impresses with a solar panel, but also with highly efficient charging electronics and specially developed software. In this way she was able to win the 3rd place in the "Working World" category and the special price for "energy transition and climate protection". The price, donated by Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche, emphasizes the importance of innovative approaches in the field of renewable energies. Clara also managed to charge the e-bike without external power sources!

Details about Clars Project

Your project, which operates under the name "Solarrad for School Way 3.0", shows that the way to school can also be made sustainable. A solar module in the bicycle basket ensures that sufficient sunlight is captured. The associated app provides information about the charging level and the energy balance of the bicycle and helps with the optimal choice of parking space in order to use sunlight at the maximum. Clara, which has collected data for a year and optimized the system, covered an impressive 380 kilometers without loading the e-bike on a socket. Their experiment proves that solar energy is sufficient in the summer months to go to school.

The jury not only praised the degree of innovation, but also the everyday suitability of the project. Clara had previously prevailed at the state competition in Bavaria and took first place in the world of work. "Jugend research" not only represents a platform for young talents, but also promotes exchange about technological innovations and social perspectives in the context of the energy transition.

a festival of science

The final event took place in the impressive premises of Lufthansa Technik, where over 1000 guests of the award ceremony attended. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier took the opportunity to encourage young researchers. Dr. In her speech, Jessica Bönsch, the head of the "Jugend research" foundation, underlined the scope of the scientific projects for the future of our youth.

It is clear that the Riemenschneider-Gymnasium not only offers an excellent environment for young researchers, but also contributes to promoting future talents in the field of science and technology. Clara Hoppach is just an example of the potential that slumbers in the local schools and is waiting to be discovered. The future will show whether this last project will remain a unique Highlight or the start of a promising career. But one thing is certain: Clara not only conquered the hearts of the jury with her e-bike, but also set a strong sign of sustainability.
