Würzburg is becoming a one-way street: district heating work from Monday!
From Monday, June 14, 2025, road users in Würzburg will face a number of challenges. Because of necessity District heating work The street “Am Exerzierplatz” will become a one-way street until mid-September. These measures, which are expected to take three months, are essential for modernizing the infrastructure.
The one-way street runs in the direction of Sanderring and Friedrich-Ebert-Ring. Appropriate traffic signs will be set up so that diversions can be identified quickly. Bus route 10 is also particularly affected and has to adapt its route. From the “Sanderglacisstraße” stop, the bus will in future travel via Virchowstraße, Weingartenstraße and Franz-Ludwig-Straße in the direction of Adalberokirche. The “Studentenwerk” stop is only served in the direction of Sanderring, the service in the direction of Campus North is no longer available.
Further traffic disruptions in Würzburg
But that's not all: from Monday, September 9th, restrictions will also come into force in the town hall curve, and for similar reasons. New lines are being built here as part of District heating work relocated. There will be a replacement rail service in this area during the renovation work.
The tram lines that normally run here are not served, and line 5 is diverted accordingly between Sanderau, Heidingsfeld, Heuchelhof and Rottenbauer. Replacement buses will take over the connection between Sanderring, city center, main station, Grombühl and Zellerau. However, the bus routes themselves are not affected by the changes.
Sustainability and energy efficiency in focus
This work also confuses an important step towards sustainability and efficient energy supply. According to information from the Würzburger Supply and Transport GmbH (WVV), interesting funding opportunities are currently available as part of the reformed federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG). These increase the attractiveness of renovations and new construction measures and can bring subsidies of between 30 and 70 percent for property owners.
The funding is aimed at renovators and builders, whereby the building application must have been submitted at least five years ago. Eligible costs of up to 30,000 euros can be claimed here, once for the first residential unit. However, the application requires a delivery or service contract. These financial incentives not only help the individual, but also strengthen the community in its efforts to become more environmentally friendly.
It remains to be seen how the Würzburg population will deal with the new traffic regulations. A good knack for dealing with diversions and adjusting timetables will definitely be necessary to make the coming months as smooth as possible.
