Würzburg in shock: several brutal brawls at the weekend!

In the night from Friday to Saturday, a wave of fights broke out in Würzburg, which the police kept up. Like Radio Gong reported, the evening started at the Talavera stop, where two men, 17 and 19 years old, got into a heated argument. The 19-year-old missed his frustration on the younger one and beat him. The 17-year-old's brother, 21 years old, stood in the way of the attacker and threatened him, which caused the police to be alerted. This took up the ads for assault against the 19-year-old and because of threat to the 21-year-old.

But the clashes came no end. About two hours later, a 20-year-old was attacked by nine people at the Barbarossaplatz. The group literally did not leave him calm and hit him several strokes and kicks, so that he had to be treated later by the emergency services at the main train station. At 02:20 a.m., four men also got into an argument in front of a club on Veitshöchheimer Strasse. Two 28-year-old thrust on a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old in the face, which brought the younger one a concussion and a cut on the left eye. The attackers were initially able to flee, but were later tracked down at home and also have to be responsible for dangerous bodily harm.

increasing crime in Würzburg

The incidents are part of a worrying trend in Würzburg. According to Würzburger Leben In 2023 the crimes in the city rose by 11.5 % compared to the previous year, with a total of 10,722 criminal charges. Particularly striking: Although the educational rate survives the Bavarian average of 65.2 % with 72.4 %, the numbers are alarming. Violent offenses in particular have increased what the police and the population worried.

The Würzburg-Stadt police inspection determined around 5,406 suspects last year, with almost half of them being not German. Another point that is worried is the increase in violent attacks, also to police officers. So there was an increase of 27.5 % in the incidents of violence against them. In addition, alcohol plays a major role in 58 % of the suspects.

Another questionable detail is the high proportion of young people among the suspects. 24 % were under the age of 21, with which these were often involved in theft and violations of the Narcotics Act.

Würzburg in focus

The highly frequented areas such as the Barbarossaplatz and the station forecourt are particularly affected by crimes, according to the police. 610 crimes were reported here. In order to counteract this trend, video surveillance was introduced in these areas in September 2023. The first positive tendencies are shown in the current statistics, even if the assault offenses increase.

In view of the recent incidents and the increasing crime rate, the police ask the police to be vigilant and give clues in order to prevent further arguments and crimes. If you have observed something, you can contact 0931/457 2230 and thus actively contribute to the security situation in Würzburg.
