A heart for unity: Bishop Jung leads Corpus Christi procession in Würzburg
What a living festival day! On June 19, 2023, the Corpus Christi celebration took place in the diocese of Würzburg, under the motto "Pilgrim of Hope". The celebrations attracted many believers who gathered in Würzburg, Aschaffenburg and Schweinfurt to commit this special day. Bishop Dr. Franz Jung directed the ceremony, thanked the people present and spoke about the great importance of unity within the church and the Eucharist.
According to estimates, around 800 people took part in the procession in Würzburg. This led from the world -famous Kilians' Cathedral through the city center to the station altar in the courtyard of the residence, where there was a stato and the subsequent Eucharistic blessings. A highlight was the transfer of the Pontifical Office, which was to be followed live to Bible TV, TV Mainfranken, YouTube and the diocese website.
a bishop with a clear order
Bishop Jung, only since his consecration on February 16, 2018, has made a name for itself by addressing the challenges and upheavals in the diocese with hope. He was previously General Vicar in Speyer and asked, in his speech to the consecration, the communities for reconciliation and to protect the unit. His motto, "Hope as an anchor of the soul", comes from the Hebrew letter and reflects his vision.
"The Eucharist is the sacrament of unity, which cannot be celebrated alone," emphasized Bishop Jung. He addresses the central role that the community plays in the Catholic Church. Many worshipers came together to hear this important message, while the cathedral choir and the symphonic wind orchestra Kürnach provided the musical design. The consecration was led by Archbishop Ludwig Schick, who also outlined the important tasks of a bishop in his sermon.
a sign of connection
The procession is not only a religious event, but also a sign of connection within the Catholic community. In his opening address, Bishop Jung asked the faithful to actively work for the unity of the Church. Especially at the time of change and the challenges, a strong community is required to keep faith alive and to give people.
In this sense, the celebration ended after emotional speeches and festive songs such as "Great God, we praise you". The approximately 800 participants spoke of a moving experience that brought the hearts together and should strengthen many for the challenges of the future. The Corpus Christi Day in Würzburg remains an unforgettable event for the community.
